Me….

Secondary education has been my chosen field of employment since 2001. After graduating from teacher training in 1998 I had worked in further education. A nice comparison with regards to pedagogical approaches, targets, schemes, curriculum, students attitudes and approaches

The skills involved in successful and effective teaching are not issued with your graduation certificate, a fact that soon becomes apparent when you secure your first employment position. I recall, as a sports person seeing an experienced boxer in a gym for the first time, effortlessly sparring, and the same experience was witnessed when I watched a black belt in Taekwondo for the first time demonstrate patterns.

So…

Watching a teacher, lecturer, instructor, coach or casual trainer impart knowledge to a group should remind me of the feelings I experienced when I viewed the skilled boxer, or the black belt for the first time. I remember thinking I would like to be “as good as them” one day. Dreyfus (1980) indicates a route from novice to expert. How do we know when we use intuition or tacid knowledge ?
